Allegheny College Offers Discount to Clergy Children

Allegheny College has announced that it will offer a 50 percent discount on tuition to children of clergy under full time appointment, as well as children of retired or deceased full-time elders or deacons. The discount will take effect with the 2015-16 academic year and apply to the class entering that year.
 
The recently adopted Allegheny College Ministerial Discount Policy: 

• Applies to unmarried legally dependent children under age 24 of UMC Elders or Deacons in full connection, good standing, and under full-time appointment in any annual conference, as well as to children of retired or deceased United Methodist ministers with the same credentials.  
• Is available to students in their first four years who are seeking their first baccalaureate degree, excluding summer sessions and Experiential Learning seminars.  The student must be full-time and remain in good academic standing with the College.

Allegheny is a national liberal arts college in Meadville, Pa. Its Methodist roots date back to 1833 when the young Allegheny College suffered financial difficulties and formed a patronage agreement with the Methodist Episcopal Church. The College maintains ties to the current United Methodist Church, but honors founder Timothy Alden’s wishes by taking a nonsectarian approach to religion, fostering an environment for the free expression of any faith.  The College celebrates its bicentennial in 2015.
