Our call as Christians

Worldwide, the AIDS epidemic is wiping out entire communities/cultures of people. Of the 40 million people infected around the world, more than 30 million have no access to medicine to treat the virus.

  • In 2018, there were 20.6 million people with HIV (57%) in eastern and southern Africa, 5.0 million (13%) in western and central Africa, 5.9 million (16%) in Asia and the Pacific, and 2.2 million (6%) in Western and Central Europe and North America. Read more from HIV.gov.
  • 76% of counties in Kansas have been affected by AIDS. Read more from Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
  • In 2017 there were 88 new HIV infections diagnosed in Nebraska residents. Read more from Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services.

Scholarships

The Great Plains AIDS Ambassadors Leadership Team has recommended that $1,000 of the conference UMGAF be allotted for scholarships each calendar year. 

Scholarship funds will be available to Conference AIDS Ambassadors to attend the National UMGAF Conference held biannually, the International UMGAF Conference or other pertinent HIV AIDS workshops or conferences.

Working for an AIDS-Free World Grant

Local United Methodist churches in Nebraska and Kansas have an opportunity to apply for the grant "Working for an AIDS-Free World Grant." The grant is funded by the 25 percent of the Global AIDS Fund offering that stays in our Conference for local AIDS projects.
